Enter Octopus Kit in Flora
Worked in stranded colourwork using fingering weight yarn, Enter Octopus features octopuses swirling around the hat, meeting in a tentacular crown. Designed to match the Octopus Point Mittens, this hat is knit in the same cozy yarn.
Version 2
Sizes: S, M, L
Circumference: 18.5, 19.75, 22.25 in/47, 50, 57 cm
To fit (approximately): 20, 21.25, 23.75 in/51, 54, 60.5 cm head circumference
Length from cast on to top of crown: 7.5, 8.5, 9.25 in/19, 21, 23.5 cm
Choosing your size: Stranded colourwork generally doesn’t stretch as much as regular knitting, especially when it has long floats as this hat does. I recommend choosing a size that is roughly 1-2 in/2.5-5 cm larger in circumference than your actual head, measured over the lower forehead, over the ears, to the back of the head just above the neck, or where you want the brim to go. A looser fit with less negative ease will give you a slouchier fit, while a more snug fit will give a sportier look. Due to the complexity of the design, the charts aren’t easily customizable. You can fine-tune the size a bit by adjusting the gauge, as long as you end up with a fabric that is solid—the stitches snugged together nicely, without gaps—yet not stiff. You can also make a deeper brim to lengthen the hat, if you like a deeper hat, or if your row gauge is tighter than recommended.
Kit includes: 2 balls of Drops Flora and Enter Octopus pattern.
